As tensions between the US and Iran continue, notable new developments have occurred on diplomatic and military fronts. A senior Iranian official, speaking to Reuters, stated that Pakistan’s efforts to persuade the US to lift the naval blockade and release the seized Iranian ship and its crew have so far been unsuccessful.
The same official stated that Iran could participate in the planned talks in Pakistan if the Washington administration abandoned its policy of “pressure and threats.” While this statement indicates that the possibility of renewed negotiations between the parties has not been completely ruled out, it also reveals that progress is difficult under the current circumstances.
On the other hand, it has been reported that the Donald Trump administration is re-evaluating diplomatic steps. According to The Wall Street Journal, Trump is considering canceling Vice President JD Vance’s visit to Pakistan. However, the same report states that Vance’s schedule has not been completely cancelled and he could depart as early as tonight.
