US President Donald Trump, in a statement regarding developments in the Middle East, said that US attacks against Iran have yielded significant results and that military operations in the region are continuing.
During a press conference, Trump stated that the targets were specifically Iranâs energy infrastructure and naval power.
Trump stated that Kharg Island, one of Iranâs most important oil export points, had been largely destroyed. He said that US forces had destroyed many targets on the island, claiming that, except for the area containing the oil pipelines, the island was âalmost completely destroyed.â Trump also added that, if a decision were made, the area containing the oil pipelines could be âneutralized within five minutes.â
The US President also spoke about operations targeting Iranâs naval forces. Trump claimed they were targeting Iranâs mine-laying capabilities and that more than 30 mine-laying vessels had been destroyed in total. However, Trump noted that there was still a possibility that Iran could lay mines in the Persian Gulf using other vessels, and said it was not yet known for certain whether mines had been laid in the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump also called for international support, inviting other countries to help make the Strait of Hormuz safe again. While acknowledging that some countries had already set out to help, Trump refrained from specifying which countries would support the U.S., saying this was to avoid targeting those countries.
In his speech, the US President also complained that some allies were reluctant to provide military support. Trump criticized this stance, claiming that some leaders responded to the US by saying, âWe donât want to get involved in this war.â
Trump also claimed that the Iranian regime had been âliterally destroyedâ as a result of US attacks.
In addition, Trump suggested that the Fed should hold a special meeting right now to discuss interest rate cuts.
