Cryptocurrency exchange Bitfinex announced that a minor security breach discovered earlier this week has been fixed.
The incident involved unauthorized access to a small portion of customer support forms that contained partial, incomplete and outdated information, according to the official statement. The attack was carried out by an individual or group who phished a customer support representative with limited permissions, thus gaining access to some support tools and help desk registration.
Bitfinex announced that none of its systems were compromised and there was no loss of customer funds. It was also stated that no server, wallet or database infrastructure was accessed and the incident was reported to law enforcement.
In its statement, the company assured its customers that their assets on the platform were never at risk and their password information could not be accessed. It was stated that the majority of affected customer accounts were either empty or inactive. Bitfinex is currently reviewing the incident and compromised information and is in the process of contacting all affected customers.
Bitfinex company was founded in 2012 and is under the umbrella of the company that also founded Tether.
