US President Donald Trump met with his advisors on Friday to discuss the ethical regulations under the Clarity Act, which is of great importance to the cryptocurrency market.
According to two sources familiar with the matter, who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the discussions, the meeting between Trump and his advisors addressed planned ethical guidelines for government officials. However, the outcome of the meeting and which advisors attended are not yet known.
The timing of the meeting is noteworthy. The US Senate is scheduled to hold a critical procedural vote on the CLARITY Act on Tuesday. This vote will be decisive in determining whether the bill can move forward in the Senate legislative process.
Senate Democrats are demanding that the bill include stronger ethics provisions covering government officials. It is reported that Democrats specifically want stricter restrictions on Trump and his family earning income from their trading activities in the cryptocurrency sector.
Ethics regulations have become one of the main points of contention in negotiations over the Clarity Act in recent weeks. Trump’s direct involvement in the process, consulting with his advisors, suggests that a compromise is being sought between the parties ahead of Tuesday’s vote.
The White House has not responded to requests for comment regarding the meeting as of today.
Patrick Witt Speaks Positively About Clarity Act
In contrast, Patrick Witt, a leading crypto policy advisor to the Trump administration, offered an optimistic message in a post on social media on Saturday. Witt stated, “It’s a bad day to be pessimistic about the Clarity Act.”
