Zcash founder Zooko Wilcox announced that AI company Anthropic has completed a comprehensive security review of the Zcash protocol and found no new critical vulnerabilities.
Wilcox stated in a social media post that Anthropic’s advanced AI model, Mythos, conducted a security audit on the Zcash network at the request of Shielded Labs. He added that the audit revealed no other previously unknown serious security vulnerabilities in the protocol.
The announcement follows the discovery of a critical security vulnerability in Zcash’s Orchard privacy repository recently. The vulnerability was identified by security researcher Taylor Hornby using Anthropic’s Claude Opus 4.8 model and could theoretically allow for the production of an unlimited amount of counterfeit ZEC. Following the discovery, Zcash developers released an emergency update to address the issue.
Zooko Wilcox thanked Anthropic for their contributions to protecting the security of Zcash users, and stated that Shielded Labs and other developer teams in the ecosystem are continuing their efforts to enhance the network’s security.
Wilcox stated that security enhancement efforts are ongoing and that more information regarding new updates and additional security measures will be shared in the coming period.
