US President Donald Trump announced that he would raise the global tariff on goods from 10 percent to 15 percent, effective immediately. In a statement following the decision, Trump argued that the increase was “completely within legal limits and legally tested.”
In a message published on the Truth Social platform, Trump harshly criticized the US Supreme Court’s decision regarding tariffs. Describing the ruling as “absurd, poorly written, and extraordinarily anti-American,” Trump stated that after months of deliberation, he had decided to take new action.
In his statement, President Trump argued that many countries have been “exploiting the U.S. without compensation” for decades, and stated that he was raising the 10% global tariff to 15%, which he described as “fully permitted and legally justified.” He specified that the increase would take effect “immediately.”
The President noted that the Trump administration will determine and announce new and “legally enforceable” tariffs in the coming months, saying this process is part of his goal to “make America great again.” Trump argued that the new trade policies aim to strengthen the U.S. economy and address existing trade imbalances.
