The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has issued a statement expressing concerns that North Korean hackers, particularly Lazarus Group and APT38, may be attempting to cash out over $40 million in stolen Bitcoin (BTC).
FBI Warns of Potential Bitcoin Sale of $40M by North Korean Hackers
The warning came as the FBI released details about six wallets linked to these hacker groups and urged crypto companies to be careful.
Lazarus Group and APT38, both believed to operate outside of North Korea, have been involved in a number of cryptocurrency attacks throughout the year.
Notable events include a $60 million theft from payment processor Alphapo and a $100 million attack involving Atomic Wallet, as reported by the FBI.
Earlier this year, the FBI linked two hacker groups to the Horizon Bridge hack, in which more than $100 million was lost.
The increasing involvement of these groups in cryptocurrency-related cyberattacks has raised concerns about their potential to destabilize the digital asset ecosystem.
In a statement, the FBI has identified six wallets in association with the Lazarus Group and APT38, containing 1,580 Bitcoins, equivalent to approximately $41 million.
The FBI has advised crypto companies to be cautious when transacting with these wallets to avoid potential disruptions or collaboration with hackers.
