According to Coindesk's news, the US Attorney General's Office announced that three people laundering money through foreign cryptocurrency exchanges were arrested.
According to a statement made by U.S. Attorney Damian Williams, the three men deceived banks in the New York area and took more than $10 million and tried to escape by converting the money into cryptocurrencies, but were arrested.
The statement stated that individuals named Zhong Shi Gao, Naifeng Xu and Fei Jiang stole millions of dollars from approximately a dozen banks in the New York metropolitan area between 2018 and 2022.
Allegedly, these three people received more than $10 million from various banks, saying they were victims of fraudulent money transfers.
“For years, Zhong Shi Gao, Naifeng Xu, and Fei Jiang allegedly participated in a complex scheme to steal more than $10 million from nearly a dozen U.S. banks and financial institutions, converting them into cryptocurrency and moving them to foreign cryptocurrency exchanges.
These accusations should serve as a warning to scammers and cybercriminals who think they can turn to cryptocurrency to hide their identities.
