The “Double Disinflation” proposal, closely watched within the Solana ecosystem, was approved in the final hours of voting after major institutional validators changed their positions. The proposal aims to slow down the increase in SOL supply more quickly by raising Solana’s annual disinflation rate from the current 15% to 30%.

One of the critical stages of the voting was Kraken’s change of mind. Initially voting against the proposal, Kraken changed its vote from “Against” to “For” following feedback from Solana users. Following the decision, Kraken co-CEO Arjun Sethi stated that custody service providers should not be the determining actors in the process.

In the final stages of the voting, it was highly uncertain whether the proposal would pass. Helius CEO Mert Mumtaz had pointed out that approximately 1-2% more support was needed for the proposal to be accepted. However, shortly before the end of the voting, Galaxy Digital’s change of position shifted the balance. After Galaxy, which had previously abstained, shifted a significant portion of its votes to “yes,” the support rate exceeded the required 66.67% threshold.

According to current projections, the change will reduce the amount of SOL to be released into the market over the next six years by approximately 18.9 million SOL. Based on the current price, this is estimated to correspond to approximately $1.47 billion less in token issuance.
