According to information obtained, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis will launch his 2024 presidential campaign during a Twitter Spaces event with Elon Musk.
The Florida Governor, who is seen as Donald Trump's leading rival for the Republican presidential nomination, will announce his candidacy for the White House with Musk during Wednesday night's Twitter Spaces event.
As a reminder, in November, Musk said he would support DeSantis if he ran for president. It is unclear whether Musk, who has 140 million followers on Twitter, will officially support Mr. DeSantis at the event.
When asked in a tweet if he would support DeSantis in 2024, he replied "Yes".
But speaking at the WSJ CEO Council Summit a few minutes ago, Musk denied speculation that he would support DeSantis.
According to a source close to the interviews, the governor's team had been meeting with the Tesla CEO for several weeks. During these talks, Musk reportedly said that he did not believe that Donald Trump, who was leading all polls for the Republican Party nomination, could defeat Joe Biden and take back the White House. “He is interested in the future and regaining,” the source said of Elon Musk.
DeSantis will speak with Musk at 1:00 CET on Thursday, and the campaign will release a video officially kicking off the campaign.
What Are DeSantis' Views on Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency?
DeSantis said in March 2022 that Florida should allow businesses to pay their taxes directly in cryptocurrency, and more recently he has voiced his fierce opposition to Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs), the opposite of decentralized Bitcoin and similar networks.
DeSantis is known as a vocal supporter of cryptocurrencies. In May 2021, he signed legislation defining virtual currency in state statutes, explaining that individuals can trade cryptocurrencies without a license.
Announcing its 2022 budget proposal that includes blockchain financing for government agencies, he said, "our view as a state government is that this is something we welcome and we want to make sure the state government is crypto friendly."
