On-chain analytics company Glassnode stated that despite recent gains in the altcoin market, a large-scale capital rotation from Bitcoin to altcoins has not yet begun. According to the company, gains in altcoins continue to lag behind Bitcoin’s upward performance.
Glassnode’s report states that the total market capitalization of altcoins has increased by 21 percent in the past month. However, this increase has not eroded Bitcoin’s market dominance in the way seen at past market peaks.
The analysis firm emphasized that strong increases in altcoin prices alone do not mean the market has entered an altcoin overheating period. During past market peaks, there was a significant flow of capital into altcoins that are higher risk than Bitcoin, and the market capitalization of these assets grew much faster than Bitcoin.
According to Glassnode, this extraordinary capital rotation has not yet occurred under current market conditions. Therefore, the recent movement is considered different from the classic “Bitcoin to altcoin shift” scenario seen during Bitcoin’s peak periods.
The company stated that the current rally is more like a broad-based uptrend seen across the crypto market as a whole, with cryptocurrencies of large market capitalization at its center.
This assessment suggests that the rise in altcoins does not yet strongly signal that the market cycle has reached its final stage. It is important for investors to consider Bitcoin dominance, altcoin market capitalization, and capital flows together.
According to Glassnode’s analysis, an acceleration of capital flows towards higher-risk altcoins and a significant decline in Bitcoin’s market share in the coming period could be a stronger indicator that the market has entered a different phase.
