OFAC Announces New Sanctions List, Includes Crypto Wallet!

OFAC, the Foreign Asset Office of the US Treasury Department, continues to take sanctions against Russia. In the statement made by the state agency today, it has been revealed that new people and institutions helping Russia's trade have been identified.

According to the latest sanctions list published, 22 individuals and 104 different organizations were accused of not implementing the previous decisions. The presence of a cryptocurrency wallet among those who were sanctioned for not following the necessary procedures did not go unnoticed.

The wallet identified by the blockchain follower Elliptic mediated the Russians to transfer $5.2 million in Tether during the war. According to OFAC's statement, the wallet in question belongs to United Arab Emirates citizen John Desmond Hanafin living in Ireland.

According to the report, after Russia's exclusion from the traditional financial system during the war, Hanafin used her own company as a cover. The UAE national mediated the transfer of large sums of money from Russia to the Emirate and for the wealthy to obtain passports from other countries.

OFAC announced that it has also imposed sanctions on companies from the crypto industry, CryptAnet and Cryptovenience, in addition to Hanafin's crypto wallet.
