The US Supreme Court announced its next hearing will be on Tuesday, amid a critical decision expected regarding the tariffs signed by President Donald Trump.

Whether the decision, which is being closely watched in global markets, will be announced in this session remains uncertain.

As is customary, the court did not announce in advance which cases would have their verdicts published. It was stated that the verdicts could be announced when the judges took the stand at 10:00 a.m. Washington time.

If a decision on the tariffs isn’t announced next week, the process could be extended by at least another month. According to the court’s schedule, Wednesday will be the final hearing until February 20th. This means that if the decision is delayed, it could be postponed until the end of February.

A ruling against Trump could deal a serious blow to the tariffs central to his economic agenda and be considered his biggest legal defeat since returning to the White House. The case centers on the tariffs announced on April 2nd, known as the “Independence Day” tariffs. These imposed additional tariffs of between 10% and 50% on most imports, as well as additional tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China under the pretext of combating illicit trade.

During hearings on November 5th, Supreme Court justices expressed doubts about whether Trump had the authority to impose these tariffs under the 1977 law, which grants the president special powers in extraordinary circumstances. A ruling against Trump could open the door to potential tax refund claims exceeding $130 billion.
