El Salvador President Nayib Bukele, a well-known Bitcoin bull, spoke out after the recent rise in Bitcoin price. At the time of writing, BTC has surpassed $63,000 and is very close to its all-time high of $69,000.
“While the market price of Bitcoin was low, they wrote literally thousands of articles about our so-called losses,” Bukele said in a statement, adding:
“Now the market price of Bitcoin has risen so much, if we were to sell it, we would make a profit of over 40% (from market purchases alone) and our main source of BTC is now our citizenship program.”
Despite the significant profit potential, Bukele made it clear that El Salvador has no intention of selling its Bitcoin holdings. “Of course we won't sell; after all, 1 BTC = 1 BTC (this was true when the market price was low, and it is true now),” he said.
Bukele also took the opportunity to criticize the silence of those who had previously written negatively about El Salvador's adoption of Bitcoin. “It is very significant that the authors of these critical articles, “analysts”, “experts”, “journalists” are completely silent right now,” he said.
He concluded his statement with a reminder: “Remember this next time they lie about El Salvador again.”
