Plasma, a company focused on stablecoin payments, announced a partnership with payment company Stripe to develop new products. The first step in this collaboration, announced today, involves jointly developing cards that support multiple currencies.
Instead of simply using an existing Stripe product, Plasma will act as a design partner in enhancing the card experience. The plan aims to simplify the payment process for users and businesses making purchases in different countries and currencies.
According to sources citing Stripe Crypto’s announcement, the infrastructure will support currencies such as the US dollar, Brazilian real, euro, Mexican peso, and Colombian peso. On the stablecoin side, USDC and OUSD are also among the announced options.
Stripe’s card infrastructure is currently available in over 30 countries. The company plans to expand supported regions to over 100 countries by 2027. This does not mean that cards developed with Plasma will be immediately available in all these countries.
The partnership announcement did not specify what function Plasma’s native token, XPL, would perform on the cards. The joint development of the cards was presented as the first tangible collaboration announced by the parties as part of their broader product partnership.
