Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) has requested a pardon from the Trump administration, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Separately, representatives of President Donald Trump’s family have held talks to take a financial stake in the U.S. arm of cryptocurrency exchange Binance, according to people familiar with the matter.
CZ remains the largest shareholder of Binance.
Sources briefed on the matter said the talks began last year when Binance contacted Trump's allies and proposed a business deal with the Trump family.
It remains unclear what form the Trump family's share would take if the deal is finalized or whether it would be contingent on an amnesty.
Sources indicated that the Trump family's stock purchase or transactions could be through World Liberty Financial.
The sources also said that Steve Witkoff, Trump's longtime friend and current chief negotiator for the Middle East and Ukraine war, was involved in the deal talks.
