UEFA, the governing body of European football, has started looking for sponsors in the cryptocurrency exchange industry for the 2024-27 period of its number one event, the Champions League (UCL) club matches. The Switzerland-based organization has given time until March 20 for official offers.

The process, which started yesterday, invites potential sponsors to submit their proposals via email. According to sources, UEFA has already received an offer in this category.

UEFA launched its search for sponsors for the Champions League 2024-27 in May 2022, in cooperation with club competitions partner organization Team Marketing. The current commercial cycle includes eight global Champions League sponsors including PlayStation, Walkers/Lays, FedEx, Mastercard, Turkish Airlines and Oppo.

In February last year, UEFA called for proposals from the financial sector for sponsorship packages in the Champions League, the second level Europa League and the third level European Conference League in the 2024-27 season. This call also included cryptocurrency exchanges.

However, no cryptocurrency firm emerged as a successful bidder in this process. Additionally, in 2022, it was reported that Bitcoin exchange Crypto.com withdrew from the sponsorship agreement with UEFA worth approximately 500 million Euros ($547 million) for the Champions League, covering five seasons.
