The legal battle between Ripple (XRP) and the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) over the status of XRP has entered a new phase.

Yesterday, a US court ruled to release censored emails from former SEC official William Hinman, who testified in 2018 that Ethereum is not a security. This decision could have significant implications for the XRP lawsuit as Ripple argues that XRP should be treated similarly to Ethereum.
However, the redacted documents will not be made public immediately. According to attorney James K. Filan, who has been following the case closely on Twitter, the parties have 21 days to make redacted versions of the summary judgment documents public, in accordance with the confidentiality order.
This means that the earliest date for the release of open documents is June 6, 2023.
However, cryptocurrency journalist Eleanor Terrett said the SEC may want to appeal the court's decision, but it is difficult for Judge Torres to accept such a request:
“Could the SEC try to appeal against the decision? Possibly, but as this is a matter of discovery, it is unlikely that Torres would accept such a request. It's also extremely unlikely that the SEC will allow its decision that the documents should be publicly available to be stopped, even if it tries to appeal.
