CBDC Currency Officially Banned in Florida

The use of central bank cryptocurrencies is now officially illegal in one of the largest states in the United States.

Republican Florida governor Ron DeSantis announced in an official statement today that they are banning a Fed-linked digital currency. The governor, who shared the press conference live on his Twitter account, determined an interesting slogan for CBDC opposition.

DeSantis referred to George Orwell's novel 1984 with the slogan "Big Brother's Digital Dollar". Orwell is known as a writer who brings harsh criticism against authoritarian regimes with his works.

Touching on important points during the press conference, the Republican governor claimed that state-controlled digital currency projects would deal a major blow to individual freedom. According to DeSantis' rhetoric, the government will be able to confiscate people's financial rights with a single click using the CBDC currency.

Other politicians known to be anti-CBDC in the country include Ted Cruz and 2024 presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy. With DeSantis' successful performance, he's likely to become the next Republican presidential nominee after Trump.

Are CBDCs Dangerous?

Central banks claim that they want to keep up with the times with digital currencies under their control. While some of the masses interpret this move as "modernization", the opponents think that this effort serves the authoritarianism of states while cryptocurrencies already exist.
