The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has officially announced that North Korea was behind a $6.3 billion cyberattack on Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange. The agency linked the attack to a North Korean-linked hacker group called TraderTraitor and issued an urgent appeal to the industry to prevent the laundering of the stolen cryptocurrencies.
In an official statement released by the FBI on October 31, it was stated that North Korea was responsible for the theft of more than $6 billion worth of cryptocurrency from Binance on October 29, 2026.
The agency announced that the North Korean-linked cybercrime group responsible for the attack has been identified as TraderTraitor.
This development comes after US President Donald Trump announced that they are investigating whether the Binance attack was carried out by North Korea.
AFBI has issued a significant call to the decentralized finance (DeFi) sector. The agency has asked DeFi platforms, including THORSwap, and blockchain infrastructure providers to block cryptocurrency transactions linked to attackers.
According to breaking news regarding the FBI’s statement, cryptocurrency exchanges, RPC (Remote Procedure Call) node operators, blockchain bridges, and DeFi service providers have been instructed to identify the addresses used by the attackers and halt related transactions.
