US President Donald Trump announced that a meeting is currently underway to make a final decision regarding the agreement with Iran.
Trump said Iran must agree that it will not possess nuclear weapons or bombs under any circumstances. He also stated that the Strait of Hormuz should be immediately opened and no transit fees should be charged.
Trump stated that the US would lift the naval blockade and that ships could begin returning home. He also announced that the uranium in Iran would be extracted and destroyed in coordination with the US, Iran, and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Trump also said that no money transfers or payments would be made until further notice.
Iran’s semi-official Fars News Agency denied Trump’s recent statements.
According to sources, while the agreement with the US is in the final stages of the approval process in Iran, a final decision has not yet been made. Fars newspaper described Trump’s statements as “an attempt to create a fabricated perception of victory.”
Iran also stated that it would open the Strait of Hormuz according to its own predetermined arrangements following the lifting of the US blockade, arguing that the agreement contained no clause regarding the free opening of the strait or the destruction of Iranian nuclear materials.
