The blockchain network Sui has announced Tessera, a new infrastructure aimed at keeping transaction amounts private in payment and settlement transactions between companies. According to a statement from Sui’s official X account, Tessera is being developed as a B2B payment and settlement network specifically designed to address the need for privacy in inter-institutional financial transactions.
Sui, in his presentation of Tessera, emphasized that one of the major obstacles to the institutional adoption of traditional blockchains is the lack of transparent display of transaction information. According to companies, institutions are reluctant to conduct their commercial transactions on an infrastructure where they can see the prices and transaction volumes of their competitors.
The fact that transaction amounts are openly recorded on many existing blockchains leads to privacy concerns, especially in payments between companies. Sui stated that this is one of the main reasons why blockchain technology is not being used more widely in real-world business-to-business payment and reconciliation processes.
Tessera uses Seal MPC and confidential transfer technologies to solve this problem. The new infrastructure aims to keep the amounts of transactions carried out by companies hidden from other market participants.
However, Tessera’s design does not transform confidentiality into an entirely uncontrolled structure. It is planned that companies involved in the transaction, regulatory bodies, and other authorized parties will be able to access transaction information when necessary. Thus, the aim is to strike a balance between commercial confidentiality and regulatory oversight.
Sui’s Tessera move demonstrates the acceleration of efforts to use blockchain technology not only in cryptocurrency transfers but also in corporate finance and B2B payment infrastructure. Ensuring transaction privacy, in particular, stands out as a critical element for large companies adopting blockchain-based consensus systems.
