Upbit, Bithumb, and Coinone, three of South Korea’s leading cryptocurrency exchanges, have added the BLUR token to their list of assets at risk of delisting. The exchanges stated that the decision was made to protect investors.
According to statements from three exchanges, BLUR was evaluated under best practice guidelines for supporting the trading of virtual assets. The reviews identified several shortcomings regarding the commercial viability of the project and the sustainability of its operations.
Exchanges concluded that these shortcomings could pose a potential risk of harm to users. Therefore, it was decided to add the BLUR token to a watchlist as part of measures to protect investors.
Cryptocurrency exchanges operating in South Korea can evaluate the digital assets they list according to certain criteria. These reviews consider the projects’ ability to continue operating, their business models, and the risks they may pose to users.
Being placed on a delisting watchlist for a crypto asset doesn’t mean the token is immediately delisted from exchanges. However, such decisions indicate that the possibility of ending trading support for the asset in the future is being considered.
In announcements made by Upbit, Bithumb, and Coinone, shortcomings regarding BLUR’s commercial viability and sustainability were highlighted, while the potential for user harm was cited as a primary reason for the decision.
However, no delisting date has been announced for BLUR. Nor has a final decision been shared regarding whether or not trading support for the token will be terminated.
The simultaneous monitoring decision by three exchanges has increased uncertainty regarding the future of BLUR’s trading support in the South Korean cryptocurrency market. The exchanges’ assessments will be decisive going forward.
