A cryptocurrency analyst using the name X-explore warned of the danger of malware attacks on centralized exchanges (CEXs) in a series of tweets.
According to X-explore, there have been hundreds of attacks on Binance, Stake.com, Bitso and more than 10 other CEXs since June 2022. He explained how the hacker copied the API requests and responses of the CEXs and replaced the addresses with their own.
X-explore also shared its analysis of the XRP altcoin chain as the largest group of attackers. He said there were 142 attacks with a loss of 14361 XRP, which is equivalent to about $7,300 at current prices.
It also revealed that the addresses of the attack were used for different CEXs and users, and the stolen funds were transferred to MEXC 10 days ago.
The analyst made some recommendations to users and CEXs to prevent such attacks. It advised users not to download and install unknown browser extensions, software or applications.
It also urged users to thoroughly check the withdrawal and deposit addresses in their emails and not deposit large sums in CEX at once. He also advised CEXs to improve the protection of API requests and responses on their systems.
