It seems that there is someone hiding the Bitcoin (BTC) Whitepaper (PDF file published by Bitcoin founder Satoshi Nakamoto when Bitcoin first appeared) inside every MacOS software of Apple produced since 2017.

Bitcoin White Paper Hidden Inside Apple MacOS

In April 2021 on the MacOS Community Forum, a user named bernd178 noticed a function inside the Image Capture Utility called Virtual Browser II, which is not enabled by default.

Accordingly, Bitcoin's whitepaper is available on all macOS versions from Mojave to Ventura, but not in older High Sierra (10.13) or earlier.

Hidden inside Virtual Browser II is an ordinary image of a bay in San Francisco and a PDF copy of the Bitcoin Whitepaper.

“Oddly enough, VirtualScanner.app Package Contents also includes a PDF containing the original Bitcoin whitepaper by Satoshi Nakamoto,” bernd178 wrote.

This was recently rediscovered by blogger Andy Baio and posted on his blog Waxy. Baio noted that you can open a copy of the Whitepaper by entering the following commands in the terminal application:

open /System/Library/Image Capture/Devices/VirtualScanner.app/Contents/Resources/simpledoc.pdf SingleQuoteLightGreenSingleQuoteLightGreen

Why Was The Bitcoin Whitepaper Chosen Of All The Documents In The World?

Andy Baion made the following statement:

Is there a secret Bitcoin maximalist working at Apple? The file name is "simpledoc.pdf" and it says only 184 KB, "Maybe it was put in because it's a handy, lightweight, multi-page PDF for testing purposes that isn't meant to be seen by end users.

Why this PDF was included will likely be a mystery, but many will check to see if it's in macOS 14, which is expected to be released later this year.

It will also be interesting to see if Apple will take this into account and remove it via patches that it regularly sends to MacOS users.
