XRP Ledger (XRPL), the decentralized blockchain network on which XRP operates, has fixed a critical security vulnerability.
According to CoinDesk, XRP Ledger announced that it has fixed a security vulnerability that, under certain conditions, could only allow accounts authorized to burn tokens to mint new tokens.
According to the statement, the update, codenamed fixCleanup3_4_0, was activated on November 4th. This strengthens the security separation between token burning and token minting permissions on the network.
How Did the Security Vulnerability Emerge?
According to the explanation, the security vulnerability stemmed from a feature called Permission Delegation, which allows accounts to delegate authority to other accounts. This system allowed an account holder to authorize another account to perform specific actions on their behalf. For example, accounts that were granted permission to burn tokens, such as stablecoins, could in some cases also exercise minting authority.
However, the update separated these two permissions.
XRP Itself Is Unaffected!
According to the statement, the security vulnerability does not affect XRP’s own supply and production mechanism. The risk was limited to stablecoins and other tokens issued on XRPL.
