US House of Representatives Postpones Discussion of Cryptocurrency Bill: Here's the New Date

The House Financial Services Committee will discuss cryptocurrency legislation on Wednesday, July 26, instead of this Wednesday, according to a statement made on condition of anonymity by the three House of Representatives staff.

Earlier this month, the committee management released a schedule for the members to discuss stablecoin and market structure bills this Wednesday. However, the employees received another email on Friday and learned that the meeting would take place on July 26 instead.

Lawmakers had predicted on Thursday that at least one of the measures would be brought forward.

Officials said it was unclear whether members would consider either or both of the cryptocurrency bills. Representative French Hill, who chairs the digital assets subcommittee, said at an event Monday at the Atlantic Council that the committee hopes to consider both bills before lawmakers leave for the August recess on July 28.

Procrastination can be a sign that last-minute negotiations and changes are underway.
