First Country to Adopt Bitcoin as Official Currency!

Liberland, a European micro-nation that holds 99% of its reserves in Bitcoin, has elected Tron founder Justin Sun as its new prime minister.

The Free Republic of Liberland, a self-proclaimed microstate located on the Danube River between Croatia and Serbia, was founded in 2015 and is known for being the first country to adopt Bitcoin (BTC) as its official currency.

Liberland used a “blockchain-based electoral system” in the last election.

Speaking to DL News after the results were announced, Sun said:

“Just as the Vatican represents a central spiritual authority for Catholics, Liberland will be the heart of the libertarian movement.

My vision is to build on the foundations of the libertarian principles that form the core of our nation.”

“I intend to actively promote the idea of small government, not only in Liberland but also as a model for the world,” Sun said when asked what he would do in his new role. “Our success can inspire other nations to adopt libertarian principles,” he said.

Stating that there are no mandatory obligations, taxes or requirements imposed on citizens, Sun added that most of the money collected by the state is quickly converted into Bitcoin.

Liberland was founded on 13 April 2015 by Czech politician Vít Jedlička, who later became the state's first President. It claims independence with Liberpolis as its capital.
