Polkadot and Kusama are two separate independent networks that share the same code base and architecture but have different priorities and use cases. While Polkadot is more conservative, prioritizing stability and reliability, Kusama is more experimental, allowing faster innovation and riskier applications. That's why developer activities are the same and share the first place.
Kusama was created to warn of any major issues ahead of Polkadot's new version launches and to help ensure the security and stability of Polkadot for more risk-averse applications. However, Kusama is not just a testnet, the blockchain is fully operational with its own economic value and its own governance.
Santiment noted that seven of the top 10 projects are also among the 32 largest market cap projects in crypto, implying a strong correlation between development activity and market cap.
