Tokyo-Based Technology Company Metaplanet Continues to Buy Bitcoin for 2027 Target! Here's the Latest Bitcoin Acquisition Count!

Tokyo-based technology company Metaplanet announced that it has added 780 BTC to its portfolio as it continues its aggressive Bitcoin (BTC) investment strategy.

Metaplanet Increases Bitcoin Holdings to $2 Billion with $92.5 Million in New Acquisitions

With its latest purchase, the company reached a total of 17,132 BTC, making it the world's seventh-largest Bitcoin holder among publicly traded companies.

According to the company's statement today, approximately $92.5 million was spent on the 780 BTC received, with the average cost per unit being $118,622.

Metaplanet CEO Simon Gerovich stated in a post on social media platform X that the company acquired all its BTC assets at an average of $101,030.

Target: 210,000 BTC by 2027

Metaplanet, which began adopting Bitcoin as a reserve asset in April 2024, updated its strategic goal last month, announcing that it plans to accumulate 210,000 BTC by the end of 2027. This equates to approximately 1% of the total BTC supply.

The company's Bitcoin-focused activities have seen growth not only in terms of investment but also in terms of revenue. Metaplanet generated approximately 1.1 billion yen (approximately $7.6 million) in revenue in the second quarter of 2025, increasing its revenue by 42.4% year-over-year.

Metaplanet shares, which are publicly traded, rose 5.6% to 1,247 yen ($8.4) at midday on Monday when Japanese markets opened. Despite a 16.3% decline in the past month, the company's shares have gained 258.3% year to date.

At the time of writing, Bitcoin is trading at $119,267, up 0.9% in the last 24 hours. Metaplanet's aggressive buying signals continued growing interest in Bitcoin from institutional investors.
