Ethereum (ETH)-based cryptocurrency mixer Tornado Cash (TORN) received support from Coinbase chief legal officer Paul Grewal as it continues its legal battle against money laundering allegations in the United States.
Paul Grewal recently defended Americans' right to privacy in his post on his X account and said that he supports Tornado Cash.
Grewal also said he believes the plaintiffs will be successful in their lawsuit against the U.S. Treasury Department to overturn the ban on the use of crypto mixers.
Grewal added that the U.S. Treasury must get authorization from Congress if it wants to regulate American citizens' use of open source software code like Tornado Cash.
“We continue to support a critical legal fight to protect Americans' right to privacy. Today, Tornado Cash plaintiffs responded to their claims in the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals with a very strong brief.
A few months ago, Coinbase supported a court challenge to the penalties imposed by the US government on Tornado Cash. Plaintiffs filed a motion for summary judgment today, asking the court to reopen [Tornado Cash] for everyone. “His ideas are simple but effective.”
Apart from Coinbase, some decentralized platforms such as Arbitum DAO also support Tornado Cash. However, recently Arbitum DAO removed this recommendation for some reasons.
