Justice Minister Andrej Milovic, Montenegro's top justice official, has reportedly decided to extradite disgraced cryptocurrency king Do Kwon to the United States instead of his home country, South Korea, according to sources familiar with the matter.
Terra (LUNA) founder Kwon has been jailed in Montenegro since March and is at the center of an international dispute as both the US and South Korea seek his extradition. Kwon is facing trial in both countries on charges of fraud and securities law violations related to the $40 billion collapse of TerraUSD and LUNA altcoins in May 2022.
Last month, a Montenegrin court approved Kwon's extradition but left the final decision on his destination to Justice Minister Milovic. Despite the court's approval, Kwon filed a final appeal against the decision. Minister Milovic has not yet made his decision public and is expected to make no further statement until the country's courts decide on Kwon's appeal.
Despite the collapse, Terra ecosystem users, who still number in the millions, are closely following Do Kwon's next address. Extradition to the United States was less desirable than the option of extradition to South Korea.
