According to a statement by Gitcoin (GTC), Shell and Gitcoin are joining forces to support open source climate solutions.
Shell Global Solutions International BV, a subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell, announced a one-year collaboration with Gitcoin, a platform that empowers communities to finance, build and protect what matters through blockchain technology.
The collaboration aims to support the development of open source software for climate solutions using innovative financing mechanisms and blockchain-related energy application areas.
According to the blog post, Gitcoin believes that its blockchain can address global coordination issues such as energy transformation, which requires the joint effort of various parties.
The collaboration with Shell will include a donation to the Gitcoin matching fund for the next four Climate Solutions rounds in the Gitcoin Grant Program and a hackathon focusing on blockchain-related energy use cases in Q4 of this year. The hackathon will provide an opportunity for developers and innovators to showcase their projects and receive feedback and support from Shell and Gitcoin.
