The University of Toronto, Canada's largest university by student count, has formed a partnership with Ripple and will independently operate an XRP validator, according to a press release.

According to the details in the press release, the collaboration is part of the University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI) run by Ripple in Canada. In addition, the company has invested over $2 million in several universities and colleges over the past five years.

The following statements were included in the press release:

“This new UBRI partnership provides opportunities for students to acquire technical skills for a crypto-specific career while helping to grow a program that already supports significant blockchain and crypto technology research in Canada.”

In a statement from Ripple, it was stated that the University of Toronto has joined current Canadian UBRI partners University of Waterloo and Toronto Metropolitan University.

The University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI) is an initiative launched by Ripple in 2018. Its purpose is to support and collaborate with academic institutions around the world to research, develop curriculum and foster innovation in blockchain technology, digital payments and cryptocurrencies.

Eric van Miltenburg, Senior Vice President of Strategic Initiatives at Ripple, said in a statement on the subject:

“As more crypto projects and companies move towards setting up outside the US, creating a pipeline of talent to create continuing education opportunities and gain widespread adoption is critical to the long-term success of our industry.”
