Layer 2 network Optimism announced its fourth altcoin airdrop. The airdrop distributed more than 10 million OP tokens worth approximately $40.8 million to approximately 23,000 addresses.
According to the official statement, this airdrop will be a token of appreciation for artists and their ability to deliver on-chain productivity. “A great society needs artists,” Optimism said on its airdrop request page.
This is not the first time Optimism has organized such an event. In May 2022, Optimism conducted its first airdrop and distributed more than 200 million OP tokens to 250,000 early users.
The rewards were based on several criteria, including the creation of interesting NFTs on the Superchain and Ethereum Mainnet and the transaction fee spent on transfers of these NFTs from January 10, 2023 to January 10, 2024.
Bonus rewards were also given to early creators who created their first NFT contract before January 10, 2023, new creators whose NFT was transferred after November 11, 2023, and those who have been active on Superchain or L1 since November 11, 2023. Popular creators whose collectors spent more than 0.005 ETH transferring their NFTs since July 14, 2023 were also rewarded.
Additionally, artists who participated in WLTA and qualified for the airdrop were given a special “We Love the Art” creator bonus.
