Özgür Güneri, CEO of Turkey's largest cryptocurrency exchange BtcTurk, announced that he decided to resign after his seven-year term. The decision was taken at a time when the company was preparing for an ambitious expansion abroad.
While Güneri will continue his duty as a member of the board of directors, Kerem Tibuk, founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of BtcTurk, will take over as acting CEO. The leadership change is part of the company's strategic focus on expansion plans.
BtcTurk plans to launch a global exchange targeting markets in Latin America, Africa and the Asia-Pacific region under the 'Global Exchange' banner. Tibuk expressed optimism about the future of Bitcoin, the world's largest cryptocurrency, predicting that prices will be “higher than they are today.”
In a separate conversation with Bloomberg, Güneri shared that he will now focus on international cooperation and “global issues.” A “brisk” last quarter and an eventful 2025 awaits cryptocurrencies worldwide.
Founded in 2013, BtcTurk has approximately 6 million users in Turkey. Elliptik Yazılım ve Ticaret A.Ş. The company, managed by , is also working on a stock trading platform that will be launched by the end of the year.
Despite the cyber attack it suffered in June, BtcTurk assured its users that it would compensate for the damage they suffered. However, Tibuk and Güneri did not explain the extent of these losses.
