OpenSea, the largest NFT marketplace, announced on Twitter that it is ending support for Binance Smart Chain (BSC) NFTs, citing the need to direct its resources towards higher promising work.

This decision came as OpenSea recently added support for layer-2 crypto solutions like Base and Zora.

According to the announcement, users will not be able to create new listings or submit new bids for BSC NFTs starting today. However, they will still be able to view, discover and transfer BSC NFTs on the OpenSea website. OpenSea did not specify how long this feature will last or whether it will be removed in the future.

OpenSea added BSC support in 2022 after noticing the excitement of the overall NFT system.

But OpenSea said it should focus on promising work as the industry evolves. The company announced that it has decided that the cost of continuing to support BSC outweighs its impact. OpenSea did not elaborate on what the costs or consequences were.

OpenSea also stated that it is still optimistic about a multi-chain future.
