In a landmark decision, the US Supreme Court ruled against cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase in a dispute over a 2021 Dogecoin giveaway.
The unanimous decision by Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson on Thursday stated that the court, not an arbitrator, should decide where the dispute will be resolved.
This case is not new to the Supreme Court. In fact, previously in 2023, Coinbase, Inc. v. It was seen under the title Bielsk. At that time, the court ruled that proceedings in the trial court should be stayed while the arbitration issue was considered.
The dispute centers around a raffle event, and consumers claim they were misled into paying a $100 entry fee.
