The funding, which was made specifically using Bitcoin (BTC), marks an important step in institutional crypto integration.

Investment Details

  • Amount: $75 million
  • Funding Method: Bitcoin (BTC)
  • Objective: To support Komainu's strategic growth plans, integrate Blockstream technologies, and enhance enterprise services.
  • Treasury Initiative: Komainu will establish its own BTC treasury to manage the cryptocurrency provided by Blockstream.

Strategic Developments

Komainu plans to leverage Blockstream’s Liquid Network, which will allow the firm to significantly reduce off-exchange margining and settlement times. This integration aligns with the growing demand for efficient and secure enterprise crypto services.

Leadership Updates

As part of the investment, three key Blockstream executives will join Komainu’s board of directors:

  • Adam Back, CEO and co-founder of Blockstream
  • Peter Paul Pardi
  • Nicolas Brand

Adam Back stressed the importance of the partnership in a press release:

“We are delighted that Komainu is adopting Blockstream’s diverse technology streams to enhance its enterprise service offering. This is a testament to the fundamental correctness of Bitcoin-related technologies and applications and marks their first foray into the enterprise arena.”

Founded as a joint venture between Nomura, Ledger, and CoinShares, Komainu offers regulated custody solutions for digital assets. The partnership with Blockstream underscores the growing institutional interest in integrating cutting-edge technologies related to Bitcoin.

This investment is expected to strengthen Komainu’s position as a leader in the crypto custody space and pave the way for wider adoption of Bitcoin in the institutional sector.
