Fantom Foundation's wallets were hacked on both the Ethereum and Fantom blockchains. The incident was confirmed by blockchain security analyst Certik, who reported that the foundation wallet on FTM lost approximately $470,000, while $187,000 was emptied on Ethereum.
Following the attack, the price of FTM dropped by 4.8% to $0.1778. The stolen funds were transferred to a wallet that currently holds approximately $7 million worth of Ethereum.
Fantom Foundation Director Andre Cronje announced that a foundation employee was targeted in the attack and lost personal funds of at least $ 7 million. “All trust funds are secured. However, a Fantom employee was the target of an attack and his personal funds were stolen,” he said.
An administrator on the Fantom Telegram channel attributed the incident to a zero-day vulnerability in the Chrome browser. The administrator stated that the wallets belonged to the Fantom Foundation and were tagged as such in blockchain explorers.
The wallet that received the stolen funds contained 4,500 ETH, worth approximately $7 million. The attack was made public on X by a cryptocurrency influencer known as Spreek.
