US President Donald Trump continues to take a pro-crypto stance. He has taken many steps in this direction, one of which was pardoning several figures from the cryptocurrency sector.
Among those pardoned were the co-founders of BitMEX, Silk Road operator Ross Ulbricht, and Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ). At this point, former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Friend is also among the top hopefuls of receiving a pardon from Trump.
According to the Wall Street Journal, a new wave of amnesties may be on the way. The WSJ reports that Trump is considering issuing a mass amnesty for the 250th anniversary of the United States.
According to reports, US President Donald Trump is considering pardoning up to 250 people to commemorate the 250th anniversary of American independence. The official announcement could be made on Trump’s birthday, June 14th, or Independence Day, July 4th.
The WSJ added that discussions on the amnesty plan were still in their early stages.
This news has sparked speculation in the cryptocurrency sector about possible pardons for FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF) and Samourai Wallet developer Keonne Rodriguez.
While the cryptocurrency sector closely follows whether SBF will be pardoned, Trump has previously stated that he has no plans to pardon the FTX founder. However, SBF’s family argues that his sentence is excessively harsh, given that many FTX customers have recovered a significant portion of their lost funds, and they are hoping for a pardon from Trump.
