Cryptocurrency exchange Binance has addressed concerns over a recent security breach in which hackers allegedly stole cryptocurrency by taking advantage of the platformās āred packetā gifting feature. According to Binanceās preliminary investigation, the incident was likely the result of the affected userās device being compromised by malware or plugins.
Binance said in a statement that the hacker was able to steal the user's email, Google Authenticator, Binance account credentials, and other sensitive information. The attacker successfully bypassed security measures by simulating the victim's commonly used devices and IP environment and accessed the funds through the red packet feature.
The exchange noted that sending red packets on Binance requires multiple security verifications, such as payment PINs, biometric authentication, or email confirmations. However, these security measures were bypassed because the hacker had already accessed the userās personal information.
Binance has advised the affected user to report the incident to law enforcement. The exchangeās security team has pledged to fully cooperate by providing all available information to assist in the investigation. Additionally, Binance urges users to remain vigilant, increase their cybersecurity awareness, and ensure their devices are free of malware to prevent similar attacks.
