While the US presidential elections are just around the corner, presidential candidate Donald Trump draws attention with his pro-cryptocurrency statements, while Joe Biden takes an anti-crypto stance.
While Trump received the support of important names in the crypto industry thanks to his pro-crypto statements, a criticism came from Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin.
Vitalik Buterin stated that he opposes supporting candidates based solely on their “pro-crypto” stance.
Warning against basing political views solely on a politician's stance against “crypto,” Buterin suggested crypto investors look at presidential candidates' previous views on crypto in a recent blog post.
Buterin, who did not name a specific country at this point, pointed out that the presidential candidates appeared to be “pro-crypto”, but did not clearly reveal their attitudes on privacy, digital identity and access to information in communication.
“There is a growing trend in the crypto space to become more politically active and support political parties and candidates almost entirely based on whether they are willing to be tolerant and friendly towards ‘crypto’.
But I push back against this trend and specifically argue that making decisions this way runs the risk of going against the values that brought you to the crypto space in the first place.”
While these statements of the Ethereum co-founder received the reaction of the crypto industry, a reaction statement came from Cardano (ADA) founder Charles Hoskinson.
Unlike Buterin, Hoskinson suggested voting for pro-crypto candidates.
In his post on his X account, Cardano founder suggested that US citizens vote for pro-crypto candidates in the elections to be held next November.
Hoskinson stated that voting for President Biden means supporting the collapse of the American crypto industry.
“My first goal has always been to keep the government away from crypto altogether. Where that's not possible, the choice is pretty clear. If they want a CBDC, sue non-custodial wallets, systematically jail Crypto leaders, call everyone safe, and bully and harass exchanges, then we won't vote for them.
A vote for Biden is a vote for the death of the American crypto industry. Let it be an odd number in 2024. Vote for professional crypto candidates.”
