Coinbase, the largest cryptocurrency exchange in the USA, announced the highly anticipated Ethereum layer-2 solution, Base, at the end of February.
Coinbase said in a statement that it had no plans to issue a new token on the Base network.
However, Coinbase Chief Legal Officer Paul Grewal, who attended Messari's Mainnet event, said that there is a possibility of issuing a new token on the Base network.
On this point, Paul Grewal said:
“The idea of launching a new token on the Base network is not something we are completely ruling out.
I think a token may be issued at some point in the future.
For now, Coinbase's focus is on making tools and technology available for users to try.
“Coinbase's goal has always been to expand opportunity and provide the tools and technology to enable others to harness their creativity.”
Commenting on Coinbase's call for 52 million US citizens who own cryptocurrencies to be decisive in the election results, Grewal said that their aim is to promote regulations that will strike the right balance between encouraging innovation and keeping consumers and investors safe.
