NBA star Kevin Durant has recovered his Coinbase account after a ten-year hiatus, after forgetting the password, according to CNBC.

Kevin Durant first encountered Bitcoin (BTC) in 2016 at a birthday party hosted by venture capitalist Ben Horowitz, which he attended with his business partner Rich Kleiman. He invested that evening when Bitcoin was just $600.

Durant later forgot his Coinbase login information, and therefore was unintentionally unable to access his Coinbase account and Bitcoins for a long time.

However, the 10-year period finally ended and Durant was able to access his account again.

Coinbase helped recover the account after completing the identity verification process.

While the exact amount of BTC Durant holds has not been disclosed, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong confirmed the recovery from the X account and stated that the platform's support team guided Durant through the process.

As is known, Durant had previously partnered with Coinbase and displayed a friendly attitude towards cryptocurrencies by purchasing NFTs.

Bitcoin traded between around $360 and $1,000 in 2016, according to CoinGecko data. The leading cryptocurrency is currently trading at around $116,000, a gain of over 11,000% from its peak price the year Durant bought it.
