According to data from the cryptocurrency prediction platform Polymarket, the probability of Ethereum losing its position as the “second largest cryptocurrency” by 2026 has reached 60%.
According to the relevant market prediction on the platform, this scenario would be considered to have occurred if ETH were to lose its second or first place ranking by market capitalization at any point between January 1 and December 31, 2026.
The data used for this estimate comes from CoinGecko, and currently Ethereum’s market capitalization is approximately $247.9 billion. Following ETH is Tether with a market capitalization of approximately $184 billion, while other major crypto assets like BNB and XRP also rank highly.
This prediction points to increasing competition in the cryptocurrency market, with stablecoins and exchange-traded tokens (ETTs) gaining significant market share. Additionally, Ethereum is trading 58% lower than its all-time high.
