Faruk Fatih Özer, who allegedly fled with the money of the users after the collapse of the crypto money exchange Thodex, was sentenced to 7 months and 15 days in prison by the court for smuggling.
The court decided to defer the announcement of the verdict.
Özer was arrested in Albania in August following a red notice issued by Interpol. Özer was extradited to Turkey in April.
The defendant Özer, whose last word was asked, stated that he was not the company official at the time of the crime and that a trustee was appointed to his company, and argued that he could not submit the books even if he wanted to, since the management was not in his possession.
After the defenses, the court sentenced Özer to 1 year and 6 months in prison before the “smuggling” crime of the Tax Procedure Law, and reduced his sentence due to reasons such as his social relations, his behavior after the crime and during the trial, and its possible effects on the future of the sentence. He adjourned the sentence by deciding to be imprisoned for 7 months and 15 days. On the other hand, the first prison sentence for Özer was issued by a court.
The Thodex case, in which Özer is sentenced to 40,464 years for “establishing and managing an organization”, “laundering property values arising from crime” and “qualified fraud”, continues at the Istanbul Anatolian Heavy Penal Court.
