President Donald Trump has pardoned three co-founders of the BitMEX cryptocurrency exchange, CNBC has learned.
Co-founders Arthur Hayes, Benjamin Delo, and Samuel Reed were previously found guilty of a series of federal charges related to money laundering and failure to regulate the exchange. Reed pleaded guilty in 2022 to violating the Bank Secrecy Act and agreed to pay a $10 million fine.
Prosecutors accused the men of effectively operating BitMEX as a “money laundering platform” and said the claim that it had withdrawn from the US market was “a scam.”
