Following a NATO meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, US President Donald Trump announced that a framework for a future agreement concerning Greenland and the wider Arctic region had been established.
In line with this understanding, Trump announced that the tariffs scheduled to take effect on February 1 would not be implemented.
Trump stated that the meeting was “extremely productive,” adding that if the framework established is implemented, it will have positive results for both the US and all NATO countries. He also said that further discussions are ongoing under the “Golden Dome” program, which includes Greenland, and that more information will be shared with the public as negotiations progress.
The president stated that JD Vance and Marco Rubio would lead the negotiations, with Steve Witkoff and other officials involved as needed. Trump announced that these individuals would report directly to him on the progress of their discussions.
