Chaos Labs stated that the primary reason for the split was disagreements over risk management approaches. The company indicated that a deepening divergence had developed over time with Aave regarding how risk should be handled. The statement also noted that the departure of key contributors increased the workload and raised operational risks.
Chaos Labs stated that the Aave V4 update also played a role in this decision. They noted that the new version expanded the scope of risk management, but this also increased operational and legal burdens. The company stated that this architecture did not align with their design approach and therefore a sustainable working environment could not be created.
Financial considerations also played a significant role in the decision to separate. Chaos Labs stated that risk management activities conducted with Aave over the past three years had been operating at a loss, and that even with a budget increase, these activities would continue with negative margins.
